Health Workforce Queensland maintains a comprehensive information system in relation to the rural and remote medical workforce in RRMA 4-7 locations. The purpose of this information system is to:
Provide a reliable and valid data set for effective workforce modelling
Provide a complete and timely portrayal of the attributes, distribution and trends in the rural and remote medical workforce
Allow for effective monitoring of current workforce distributions and to facilitate proactive planning for identified areas of current, or potential future areas of workforce shortage.
Research Research informs policy and strategy formulation. In particular, issues that impact on the viability of health service delivery and the recruitment and retention of general practitioners in rural Queensland are identified and explored. In collaboration with relevant stakeholders research topics include the exploration of viable models of general practice, primary health care teams and systems that support the recruitment and retention of medical practitioners in rural and remote communities.
Evaluation All Health Workforce Queensland’s activities include an evaluation component that attempts to examine the effectiveness of the activity in facilitating recruitment and retention in Queensland rural general practice. Evaluation of all Medical Education and Training activities are routinely and locum placements are undertaken by Health Workforce Queensland to ensure that a high quality is provided and maintained.
Policy Development Health Workforce Queensland researches and develops policies and position statements and submissions on issues relevant to rural medical practice. The major functions of policy unit are: • Researching and analysing policy issues in relation to the recruitment and retention of rural medical practitioners • Preparing proposed position statements for stakeholder consultation and • Recommending policy amendments through Health Workforce Queensland’s research team to the sub-committees of Health Workforce Queensland board of Directors.
