In April, Health Workforce Queensland CEO Stewart Gordon travelled across Western Queensland to meet with key stakeholders, strengthening existing partnerships and exploring opportunities to deepen collaboration across remote and rural communities.

A highlight in Roma was meeting with Dr Tony Brown, CEO of South West Hospital and Health Service (SWHHS). The discussion focused on practice viability and sustainability, alongside genuine opportunities for partnership as SWHHS continues to grow its own clinical workforce. These conversations were practical, grounded and strongly aligned with HWQ’s purpose.

Stewart also met with Anthony West, CEO of Central West Hospital and Health Service (CWHHS), alongside HWQ Board Director and Chair of CWHHS Jane Williams. This was another affirming conversation that reinforced the strength of existing partnerships and the shared commitment to further collaboration across remote and rural Queensland.

In Winton, HWQ participated as a partner in Western Queensland PHN’s relational commissioning initiative, Healthy Outback Communities (HOC). The meeting brought HOC partners together to agree on next steps for outcome-based commissioning, with a focus on shared outcomes, future payment models, and the data and governance foundations required to support delivery across Western Queensland. It was an inspiring experience and a powerful reminder of both the value of the non-clinical workforces and the system-level impact that can be achieved through genuine partnership.

Collectively, these meetings highlighted the opportunity for even greater impact across the health system through collaboration, trust and shared purpose.
