The Darling Downs region is set to benefit from 8 new doctors and nurses commencing across local general practices this month, supported by the Commonwealth funded Rural Workforce Agency Health Workforce Queensland (HWQ).
The new starters will strengthen access to primary healthcare in communities including Boonah, Dalby, Esk, Gatton, Kingaroy, Pittsworth and Rosewood,helping improve appointment availability and continuity of care.
Supported through HWQ’s workforce programs, the doctors and nurse swill commence at multiple practices and services across the region. The additional workforce is expected to improvethe local community’s management of chronic conditionsand access to services closer to home.
Over the 2025-26 Financial Year, HWQ has recorded 68 GP and 31 allied health and nursing commencements across Queensland.

Rosewood: 1 nurse
Health Workforce Queensland Chief Executive Officer Stewart Gordon said bringing clinicians into rural and regional communities is a key focus for HWQ.
Placing doctors, nurses and allied health professionals into rural and regional communities is complex and often time‑intensive, but it is critical work. Through targeted recruitment, we are supporting clinicians to build careers in regional Queensland while strengthening access to local primary healthcare services.
