Practice Information:

Privately owned by the Principal GP following a purchase in February 2019, this medical centre has been established for over 30 years. They are a mixed billing practice and the work is diverse. The incoming GP will experience chronic disease, skin cancer, sexual health, mental health, paediatrics, dermatology and given nearby industrial and farming industry, accident and emergency presentations can occur.

About Gordonvale:

Gordonvale was once very much a rural community is now part of the natural urban sprawl of Cairns. Situated just 22km south of Cairns, our Doctors live from Gordonvale to North Cairns. Those who commute do it comfortably against the traffic both ways in around 25 minutes. Current works on the roads between Gordonvale and Cairns will reduce this further. The town population is growing and comprised of a big elderly population but with its affordable housing is attracting younger people and families. An indication of growth is the building of Woolworths on the Western side of the highway within Gordonvale.

Position Description:

The General Practitioner role is to provide comprehensive medical care to individuals, families and communities (from initial consultation to follow up) on simple and complex health conditions.  The General Practitioner provides a range of health services ranging from prevention of illness through to treatment and rehabilitation.  The position requires consultation with other health professionals internally and externally as required, with coordination and ongoing care relating back to the General Practitioner.  General practitioners in this role continue to assist patients and the community by providing ongoing education, participating in health promotion, conducting research and assisting training to colleagues and other health professionals.

After Hours Requirements: Yes (Irregular phone contact shared across the Doctors)

Qualifications & Experience:

• Previous experience in General Practice

• MBBS or equivalent

• FRACGP or equivalent or applicants working towards is desired

• AHPRA registration

• International Medical Graduates (IMG) without specialist qualification will be considered
