More Doctors for Rural Australia Program (MDRAP) Support Program

The More Doctors for Rural Australia Program (MDRAP) and the MDRAP Support Program are both components of the Stronger Rural Health Strategy 2018-19 Budget Measure.

The Stronger Rural Health Strategy aims to streamline and simplify qualification pathways and support non-vocationally recognised (non-VR) doctors to attain fellowship from either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).

MDRAP supports non-VR doctors to gain valuable general practice experience in rural and remote communities prior to joining a college fellowship pathway.

The MDRAP Support Program will provide funding to support MDRAP Members with the following:

  • Supervision Cost

  • Foundation Modules

  • Additional Clinical Learning and Development opportunities as identified in Professional Development Plan.

Doctors within the program will be supported with tailored learning and supervision to meet their needs and that of their region. This will ensure a high quality and safe delivery of care.

Assessment plan for each MDRAP doctor will include:

  • A supervision plan (for doctors without GP experience), and

  • A Professional Learning and Development Plan outlining the required training and support
