A visiting specialist, dietician, diabetic educator and audio health attend the Practice on a regular basis. We employ eight additional staff members, a practice manager, one registered nurse; three endorsed enrolled nurses, four reception staff, a casual receptionist and a cleaner. Dr Jay is an overseas trained G.P from South Africa, who was sponsored by the Practice and has completed his RACGP fellowship.
Our Practice is fully computerised, air conditioned and modern, we have facilities for nursing staff and General Practitioners to carry out E.C.G's, Spirometry, Audiometry, Minor excisions/incisions, plastering and cryo-therapy. We are a paper free practice, path results, x-ray reports are downloaded several times a day. Specialist letters are received via fax, mail or email, imported into a holding file and actioned electronically by the G.P's.
Currently there are two full time and one part time G.P's. Full time General Practitioners see on average 400 - 500 patients per annum. There are six G.P consulting rooms and two treatment rooms. Two Ultrasounds and the cliental range from newborn - old aged. There is a private X-ray and CT Practice, Dentist and Orthodontist and Chiropractor located upstairs, a Pathology Lab opposite the surgery; a cafe and another path lab across the road from the surgery. Several Chemists one on the corner of the block and the rest in walking distance.
The Practice is accredited with the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited, and we are currently undertaking our fourth reaccreditation. Our two General Practitioners are accredited trainers, who have several medical students under their supervision
After Hours
After hours consulting are covered by the G.P's of the Practice (for our Practice patients only) from Monday - Friday and are rarely called out. Patients present to the hospital emergency department from Friday evening to Monday morning, as well as all Public Holidays.
Position Description:
G.P.'s conduct patient consultations every 10 to 15 minutes. G.P.'s at the Innisfail Medical Centre work within a team and work closely with other G.P's, nurses, practice manager and administration staff to offer quality medical care to our patients.
G.P's treat patients of all ages and backgrounds, with a wide variety of general practice type conditions, including medical, paediatric, dermatological, antenatal and postnatal care, surgical, and work injuries.
The position is full time
Normal Working Hours: Monday to Friday - 8.30 am - 5:30 pm
About Innisfail
The Practice is located within the town centre, the hospital and all other facilities are within walking distance.
Innisfail is the Cassowary Coast's largest town, with a population of approximately 10,000. The township is picturesquely situated at the junction of the North and South Johnstone Rivers, approximately five kilometres from the coast. Innisfail is 90km from Cairns (an hour's drive) along the Bruce Highway, making it easily accessible by car, bus or train. Townsville is a three and half hour drive south and the Great Barrier Reef is only a half hour boat ride. There are plenty of tourist attractions within driving distance for day trips.
A warm tropical climate, and an annual rainfall of around 3500mm, ensures the area is always lush and green. Average daytime temperatures in Australia's winter from 26 and 30 degrees Celsius (in the dry season from May to October) and in the wet season (November to April) the temperature is around 30 degrees.
Agriculture is the major economic driver with well-established banana, sugar cane and tropical fruit industries. Nearby Mourilyan Harbour is a major regional port boasting bulk sugar-loading facilities. Tourism is a growth industry and Innisfail is a popular destination for backpackers seeking employment in the banana industry.
The town is a major service hub for the Cassowary Coast region and has a wide range of shopping facilities including national retail outlets e.g.
Kmart, Target, McDonalds, Coles, Woolworths etc., government services and regional health and educational facilities, including several Public schools and a Private school.
With access to two World Heritage Areas - the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the Wet Tropics rainforests - the town is surrounded by beautiful natural attractions. Pristine beaches such as Etty Bay, Flying Fish Point, Cowley Beach and Kurrimine Beach are a short drive away. Wooroonooran National Park, with the Mamu Canopy Walkway and walking trails through the Misty Mountains, is 27km west of Innisfail. Other attractions include an historic Spanish-style castle and pleasure gardens, a crocodile park, tropical fruit winery and sugar industry museum. In town, picnic and barbecue spots can be found at Warrina Lakes, along the riverfront and at Anzac Memorial Park.
