Full-time, 38 hrs/week (Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm; hours may be negotiable to suit lifestyle)
Practice Information:
This is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) delivering integrated, culturally safe services to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. It operates a fully bulk-billing Chronic Care Services Clinic providing high-quality, culturally safe primary healthcare, with a strong focus on preventative health and chronic disease management. The service prioritises care for vulnerable community members registered with the clinic, with service capacity expanding as the medical workforce grows. In addition to health services, they deliver Aged Care, Indigenous Family Wellbeing (IFWB), and Housing programs, supporting individuals and families through a holistic, community-led model of care that recognises the social, emotional, and cultural determinants of health. Clinical services are delivered from a dedicated facility and supported by experienced practice management, reception staff, and senior Aboriginal Health Workers. This multidisciplinary, team-based approach ensures continuity of care, strong cultural governance, and culturally safe service delivery.
Position Description:
This role is open to a General Practitioner and/or General Practice Registrar, working as a primary clinician within a well-established clinic operating at a steady and supported pace and with an interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Checks and chronic disease management. Join a team-focused clinic supporting community-led initiatives across health, aged care, IFWB, and housing, delivering holistic care and making a meaningful impact in the Bowen community.
This is an exciting opportunity for General Practitioners and Registrars who are passionate about community-controlled healthcare, preventative medicine, and chronic disease management, and who wish to contribute to the ongoing growth and impact of an established Aboriginal health service delivering integrated care across health, aged care, family wellbeing, and housing.
Clinical responsibilities include:
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Checks, 4-year-old, 45–49, and 75+ Health Assessments, Development and review of GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements, Cervical screening Referrals for cervical screening may be made to the local hospital Women’s Clinic where clinically appropriate, Occasional nursing home visits may be required during standard working hours and may include home visits for established patients which may be undertaken at the discretion of the GP.
Position Requirements:
General registration with the Medical Board of Australia is required.
This role suits an experienced General Practitioner or a Registrar able to practice with a high level of clinical independence, noting that on-site supervisory capacity is limited.
Experience using Best Practice clinical software is desirable
Experience in delivering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Checks is highly regarded, with an understanding of culturally safe practice within a community-controlled health setting
Demonstrated experience or strong interest in Chronic Disease Management (CDM) and collaborative, team-based care alongside Aboriginal Health Workers and allied health professionals is encouraged
