Practice Information:

The practice is a small, fully accredited one doctor practice. The practice leases rooms from the local community health service, IMPACT, which provides various allied health services. Currently we have one registered nurse and two receptionists in our team. We provide mixed billing: this includes both private and concession fees; bulk billing is provided to pensioners over 65 years and to children under 16 years. Script and procedural clinics are held throughout the week to help organise flow and timeliness of appointments. After hours demands fluctuate, but generally call-outs occur mostly on a Saturday morning. We have a specific 'after hours' phone, which ideally would be shared 50/50 with the other GP. The percentage would be negotiable though.

Agnes Water is surely one of the last quiet seaside towns you will find on Australia's East Coast. If you love the appeal of the Sunshine Coast, but can't stand the peak hour traffic, then perhaps Agnes is the place for you. Agnes possesses everything you want in a surfing beach - for both long and short boards. If you prefer calmer waters for swimming and paddling, then why not try driving 5 minutes up the road and experience the holiday destination of 1770. Tourists dream of living in such a picturesque place, where they can watch the sunset over the water, but when the town goes quiet again and the short holidays are over, we actually get to stay and really appreciate it.

What else is there to do around town, though? Many people enjoy camping and 4 wheel driving in the national parks. If you don't want to leave the water, then there is a whole other world of recreation if you own a boat - whether it be for fishing, diving or cruising.

The town has a large Foodworks and smaller Spar grocery store, along with all the necessities a town needs. There are two schools in Agnes - a state primary school, and a private school available for both primary and secondary year levels. Buses also commute to the major private schools in Bundaberg. Due to our rural location, one is able to purchase larger blocks of land than in metropolitan areas for equivalent prices. Established houses within a stone's throw are also reasonably priced and cheaper than larger coastal towns. When it comes to other available work, there really is not much around, so it is important to secure work before making the decision to move here and settle.


Position Description:

We are looking for a, vocationally registered GP, dedicated to providing good quality - not quantity - healthcare. Experience in procedural women's health would be highly valued by our community, given the distances often required to travel to larger centres for management of a number of conditions. You must be keen to step up to the challenges that only rural medicine can offer. Comprehensive workup of patients and stronger reliance on clinical diagnostic skills and acute management is very rewarding, particularly given the distance and time barriers often present when planning investigations and testings.

Being one and half hours from the closest hospital means you are often the 'first port of call' for patients requiring urgent attention. The privilege of working in a smaller community, is that you will soon come to know our very experienced paramedics by name and come to work with them as a team by respecting each other's unique skills and judgement.

The community spirit of Agnes is very infective, so be ready to receive generous gifts from around the community. This includes a lot of fresh produce, for example eggs, fruit or vegies from various gardens and small farms. Along with this community spirit, one must fully appreciate and maintain the strictest level of confidentiality, which is so highly valued in our practice.
