Town Information:
Charters Towers is situated inland in the Burdekin River Valley, about 130 kms southwest from the coastal port of Townsville via the Flinders Highway. Charters Towers at an altitude of 336 metres has an excellent climate - clear, semi-arid, sunlit winter days, and cool to warm summer evenings.
Charters Towers is a heritage city with approximately 10,000 people and about 2000 of that represents the students at the three major boarding colleges in town. The city services a large gold mining industry and a very large beef cattle industry including many home-stay properties. This is a very popular tourist destination during the winter months.
Although Charters Towers has close proximity to Townsville, it boasts many amenities including a first class theatre, squash courts, gym, tennis clubs, golf course and many other sporting activities. There are also a number of quality restaurants. The Burdekin River offers fishing, canoeing, and camping for an outdoor lifestyle, and only a short drive away past the historic town of Ravenswood the Burdekin Dam caters for water-skiing and fishing enthusiasts.
Practice information:
The practice was established in 1985. The consulting hours at the practice are between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday with late nights Thursday from 5.00pm until 6.00pm. Saturday mornings are 9.00am until 11.30am. This is one of two private practices in Charters Towers with a varied patient list of approximately 5000 patients. The practice is fully computerized using Best Practice
Mixed billing Group practice. Family Health, Women's Health, Health Checks, Immunisation, Travel Vaccination, WorkCover, Skin Cancer treatment (checks & removal), Indigenous Health and Industrial medicals.
Visiting specialist. Tertiary Hospital 1 1/2 hours away. Local Hospital 1 km away.
After Hours requirements:
After Hours requirements as per roster. Usually 1 weeknight and 1 in 6 weekends. After Hours bonus payment paid for being on call weekends only.
