Cairns is a pretty good place to live, we have all the attractions of the tropics, with an outdoor lifestyle but also the benefits of good schools, restaurants, shopping, entertainment that a medium size city can offer. You never have to drive far, and you can find a good plumber. The housing is affordable. Medically we are well supported as gps but not claustrophobic with specialists. The ED at the Cairns Hospital is very good and there is no afterhours commitment. We use a deputizing service but if you wish you can provide your own nursing home and palliative care service, for example, as do some of our doctors.
