Practice Information:
Mixed billings; busy solo practice; friendly and supportive staff. Full-time nurse support. They have a high percentage of patients with chronic health problems, so do a lot of care plans along with health assessments and indigenous health checks. They also do pre-employment medicals. The nurses are very good and do a lot of the planning and work for the doctors with the care plans and health assessments. There is the opportunity to do minor excisions and procedures. Warwick has two imaging sites, two pathology sites and numerous allied health providers.

Warwick is located 130km to the south-west of Brisbane, on the banks of the Condamine River. It is a safe town with good shopping facilities. We also have Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Supa IGA and Foodworks in the town, which is the administrative centre for the Southern Downs Regional Council. There are numerous scenic drives in the area and many sporting facilities.
Position Description:
Key Responsibilities
In fulfilling the key responsibilities area, the General Practitioner will:
undertake all duties in a diligent manner, with honesty and integrity, acting in the best interests of the Practice as a whole at all times;
clearly and accurately represent the philosophy, purpose, policies and procedures of the practice
maintain the awareness that all actions impact on the Practice’s intangible assets such as reputation and the confidential operational information of the business;
exercise care when using Practice physical assets, including medical and computer equipment.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide high quality, cost-effective, primary health care services to the community, in keeping with best practice standards.
Provide appropriate care and services to patients of all age ranges and level of health care needs.
Respond to medical / health problems presented by patients including history taking, diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate
Provide management of long-term conditions in line with national guidelines and pathways.
Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate optimal health outcomes for patients.
Prescribe for patients as appropriate to need, and in accordance with the Practice Drugs of Dependence Policy.
Provide appropriate health promotion and preventative health care advice to all patients attending the practice.
Ordering diagnostic tests as required.
Referring patients to other providers as appropriate.
Liaise with team members and other professions outside the Practice on behalf of patients and their families where appropriate and following consultation, participate in interdisciplinary case conferences as required.
Providing health care via home visits and residential aged care/nursing home visits, as appropriate in the best interests of the patient.
Knowledge Management
Record and maintain accurate, adequate and relevant patient records using the established practice protocols and computerised medical records system, including details of:
specialist referrals
investigations
previous health and family history
treatment
allergies
diagnostic results
prescriptions
registers and recalls.
Record the appropriate billing numbers including Medicare item numbers in the software in a timely manner to allow administration staff to invoice promptly.
Provide medical information and support to other agencies and compile reports of a medico-legal character, as required.
Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge relevant to clinical competence.
Provide advice, guidance and support to nursing and administration colleagues as appropriate.
Relationship Management
Demonstrate a high level of written and verbal communication skills, along with time management, negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
Actively communicate and coordinate with colleagues, specialist services and allied health professionals when sharing the care of a patient.
Establish and maintain professional networks to promote the sharing of knowledge and provision and development of coordinated and collaborative community-based programs and activities.
Work collaboratively with other services and special interest groups to broaden the resource base for services available to patients and families.
Assist in the orientation of health staff to the workplace.
Organisational Contribution
At all times, model ethical behaviour and practices consistent with the Practice’s Mission, Vision and Values.
Actively participate in and contribute to Quality Improvement Programs for the Practice.
Maintain an effective, harmonious and collaborative relationship with the Business Manager and other members of the Practice team.
Be conscientious in the performance of duties and scrupulous in the use of official or confidential information, equipment and facilities.
Assist the Practice to meet all relevant legislative requirements, including Accreditation.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent.
Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency as a General Practitioner.
Desirable
Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practice (FRACGP) or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine (FACRRM).
Must be able to work as a solo GP. We have a full-time nurse and another who works part-time. Experience with and interest in chronic disease would be required. There is also the opportunity to do some skin cancer surgery if desired and experienced. There are nursing home visits within clinic hours, but a nurse will always accompany the doctor.
