Upon the release of our 2022 professional development workshops calendar, we have been overwhelmed with the amazing response from medical practitioners, with our ever-popular Dermatology and Wound Management workshop selling out extremely quickly and with a record number of doctors joining the waitlist.

Our Dermatology and Wound Management workshop was held at the Mercure Kawana Waters on the Sunshine Coast on 26 and 27 March with 18 delegates in attendance.

Skin conditions account for 10% of the total encounters in general practice, making them one of the most common presentations in Australian general practice and most chronic wound care is now managed in the community rather than the hospital setting.

Led by Assoc Prof Jim Muir, Dr Dan Kennedy and Dr Dianne Smith, this two-day workshop provided attendees with interactive and skills-based sessions which were designed to replicate common dermatological and chronic wound presentations seen in rural settings. These included skin checks, dermatitis conditions, suturing, wound debridement and surgical defects. These techniques were practiced on pork belly and hocks to best replicate human skin and anatomy.

“Valuable workshops, especially regarding improved knowledge of wound assessment
and dressing selection.”
