On behalf of the Health Workforce Queensland Board, I announce that Chris Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer, has advised of his decision to retire, effective 22 September 2025.

After 24 years of exceptional service and leadership, Chris has decided it is the right time to retire. During this time, he has played an instrumental role in shaping the agency’s direction, driving growth, and fostering a strong culture grounded in our values of integrity, commitment, equity and sustainable growth.

As we begin the search for a new CEO, we are pleased to announce that Zena Martin, our current Deputy CEO, will step in as Acting CEO starting 23 September 2025. Zena brings deep organisational knowledge and leadership experience to the role, and we are confident she will provide continuity and stability during the transition period.

We are incredibly grateful for Chris’ vision, dedication, and impact, and we look forward to celebrating his many achievements prior to his retirement.
