Returning Delegate Spotlight: Dr Chris Diedrick
Townsville Aboriginal and Islander Health Service & Palm Island Community
For Dr Chris Diedrick, professional development isn’t just about upskilling, it’s about strengthening the care he provides to his community.
“It’s a privilege to be able to work for these communities and to be part of the health journey. The interaction between the service and our clients is always encouraging. It helps us to be effective and bring about real improvements in managing our patients’ concerns and ailments.”
Chris has attended several Health Workforce Queensland workshops and says the structure and evolution of the program are what keep him coming back.
“I love the structure of the workshops. I attended one of the mental health workshops about three years ago, and there’s definitely been change — a definite improvement. I like that Health Workforce Queensland listens to our feedback and actually puts those changes into action. It’s very interactive, very practical, and all things we can use in our day-to-day practice.”
He recently returned for the 2025 Emergency Mental Health Workshop, which he says built perfectly on his previous experience.
“When we give feedback, you can see the difference next time. The Health Workforce Queensland Events Team makes the adjustments that are needed, and the feedback that’s given to the speakers is taken on board and shaped to fit GP practice, which is important. There are GPs involved in the workshop planning too, which helps make it relevant for us, so we can do evidence-based medicine that’s both effective and practical.”
For Chris, these workshops don’t just strengthen his confidence, they help him deliver better care for his patients.
“I’d really encourage colleagues to attend. They’re evidence-based, very practical, and relevant to us as GPs. They improve how we practise, how we interact with our clients, and lead to better outcomes. They’re geared towards GPs and they’re effective in delivering exactly what’s needed.”
Your CPD empowers your community.
Every time Chris upskills through a Health Workforce Queensland workshop, his learning has a ripple effect, reaching beyond his own development. The practical, evidence-based knowledge he takes back to Townsville and Palm Island translates into better patient care, stronger clinical decision-making, and improved community health outcomes.
For Chris, CPD isn’t just about professional growth, it’s also about giving back. Each new skill strengthens his ability to respond, support, and lead within the communities that rely on him most.
Your CPD doesn’t just shape your practice — it strengthens the communities you care for.
