Doctor checking patient for skin cancers

Skin-cancer presentations are a frequent and critical issue in Australian primary care. Australia has one of the highest burdens of skin cancer globally: for example, it is estimated that 2 out of 3 Australians will develop some form of skin cancer by age 70. In remote and rural communities, general practitioners are frequently the first, and in some cases the only, healthcare providers available to identify, diagnose and manage skin cancers. Given the strong evidence that early detection of skin cancer improves outcomes, it is crucial that clinicians working in remote and rural settings are confident in recognising suspicious lesions, initiating timely treatment or referral, and providing appropriate surveillance and prevention advice.

Why Attend?

This dynamic 2-day workshop features:

  • Engaging Interactive Lectures: Learn from expert presenters on topics such as skin cancer history and the skin check essentials, dermascopic features of malignancy and the 'featureless' skin malignancy, biopsy and excision principles, perineural invasion: diagnosis & management, management of the high burden skin cancer patient and field therapies, radiation and chemoprophylaxis.

  • Practical Procedural Skills Stations: Gain hands-on experience in essential skills for rural practice including local anaesthetic administration, shave and punch biopsy, and elliptical excision and closure techniques.
