Practice Information:
The Practice is a charitable, not for profit, community-controlled Indigenous health provider to over 4000 residents of Yarrabah.
They provide culturally sensitive primary health care services in accordance with the Yarrabah Health Strategic Plan and is a member of both the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) alliance and Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC).

Position Description:
The position is responsible for the delivery of patient care and services that are aligned to the ACCHO model of comprehensive primary health care, to a standard that achieves prevention, early detection and best-practice management of health conditions within the Community. Overseeing child health services within a primary healthcare setting, the position works closely with early childhood centres, schools and government agencies involved with child health and child protection.

Position Requirements:
Essential:
Minimum 2 years’ nursing experience including clinical knowledge & expertise in delivering child health care & services within a primary health care setting
Understanding of & commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community control, cultural identity, practices & beliefs
Demonstrated understanding of the health, social & emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples
Interpersonal, negotiation, & communication skills capable of influencing outcomes, including the ability to communicate effectively within an Indigenous community setting
Agreement with & commitment to observing & upholding organisational mission, vision, & values & their application to this position
Desirable:
Acute paediatric nursing experience including paediatric venepuncture and cannulation
Funding report writing experience
Experience working within an Aboriginal community controlled primary health care setting
Awareness of accreditation, regulatory and legislative obligations and requirements relevant to the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) setting
Practical:
AHPRA registration and a commitment to complying with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Competencies, Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Nurses in Australia
Knowledge, skills & certification necessary to safely administer vaccines as an authorised immunisation provider
Experience administering Bicillin L-A antibiotic
COVID-19 immunisation certificate appropriate to employment within a Queensland PHC setting
Queensland Drivers Licence
Ability to maintain a current CPR certificate

About Yarrabah:
Yarrabah is Australia’s largest discrete First Nations community. The community lies to the east of Cairns. By road, it is placed about 60kilometres from Cairns. It takes about 45 minutes to travel by car from the Yarrabah Community to the Cairns CBD. Over the years, subsequent state government administrations forcibly relocated aboriginal and some south sea islander peoples from far and wide to Yarrabah.
