Practice Information:
This Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation delivers culturally safe, holistic primary health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Rockhampton region.
Position Description:
Key responsibilities will include:
Provide clinical leadership and oversight of the medical team within the Health Service, ensuring safe, high-quality care in alignment with our culturally safe model.
Drive improvement in clinical systems, pathways, and our model of care
Embed continuous quality improvement processes, monitor outcomes, and support accreditation and governance frameworks.
Develop and oversee medical education and training programs (for doctors, registrars, allied health, nurses) and support career development of the clinical workforce.
Act as a key clinical advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and Board, contributing to strategic planning, risk management, policy development and funding submissions.
Work collaboratively across disciplines (GPs, nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, allied health) to foster a multidisciplinary, team-oriented approach to care.
Maintain a clinical practice component to remain connected with patient care and the operational realities of the service.
Position Requirements:
This service is seeking a highly motivated clinician to fill the role of Senior Medical Officer. This role is ideal for an experienced General Practitioner who is either stepping into a clinical leadership role or looking to step back from a heavy clinical load and focus more on system improvement, governance, CQI and education.
Experience as a GP or Senior Medical Officer within a primary health care or community health setting.
Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and foster a positive workplace culture.
A strong commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with cultural awareness and humility.
Ability to think strategically and operationally, translating vision into practice, building systems and processes, monitoring outcomes and driving improvement.
Desirable:
Experience in an ACCHO or Aboriginal health setting (though not essential), supervisory or training roles, familiarity with accreditation, policy, evaluation, and primary health care.
Essential:
Medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent), current registration and fellowship with RACGP &/or ACCRM
