Galangoor provides high quality comprehensive primary health and wellbeing services promoting healthy lifestyles, social and emotional wellbeing and early intervention targeting designed to ensure Healthy Living, Healthy Communities, and a Healthy Future. The Midwife position is responsible for the provision of culturally appropriate care to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their families, within a primary health care setting. The service adopts a holistic approach which focuses on the concept of continuity of care and comprehensive midwifery led care for women during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period. Position Description Key Duties include:
Maternal services including antenatal, postnatal, child development checks; screening; parenting advice; responses to identified social and developmental health needs; referral to support services; early intervention services; improved linkages and collaboration with a range of maternal and early neonatal services;
Maternal antenatal care services including: providing advice about smoking cessation, healthy eating and physical activity; referrals to other health services; referrals to support services; referrals to specialists; parenting advice; social and emotional wellbeing; alcohol consumption during pregnancy; and antenatal consultations;
Postnatal care services including: breastfeeding support/information; parenting advice about providing supportive and nurturing healthy (including smoke free) environments, nutrition and health eating support;
Child and adult immunisation;
Health assessment services: diabetes, sexually-transmissible infections, cardio-vascular and renal diseases etc.
Health promotion services including: nutrition, tackling smoking and alcohol, physical activity, sexual health, blood borne viruses, prevention of communicable disease; holistic health services, women’s health services, and harm and injury reduction activities.
Liaise and coordinate treatment, care and follow up through consultation with other sections in the service, local hospital and agencies.
Conduct home visits and/or outreach services.
Management of all recalls for significant results and follow up of tests, results and referrals.
Qualifications and Experience Key Requirements/Criteria include:
Current Midwifery Nursing Registration with (AHPRA).
Evidence of recency of practice and ability to work autonomously.
Ability to provide antenatal and postnatal care in a Primary Health Care setting.
Relevant clinical experience with commitment to evidence-based outcomes.
Responsible for undertaking a minimum of 20 hours annual professional development to be eligible for ongoing Registration with (AHPRA).
Dual RN/RM preferred but not essential.
A demonstrated ability to work within the community and to promote the development of the Galangoor Duwalami Model of Care.
Commitment to Professional Development of self and others to encourage lifelong learning. Responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and has received or willing to attend training in cultural reflective practice.
Ability to plan, prioritise and time manage.
Utilises available resources effectively and efficiently for the delivery of evidence-based midwifery care.
Current CPR (annual), and First Aid Training (every 3 years).
Current Class C driver licence.
Satisfactory Police Check.
Evidence of immunisation against vaccine preventable diseases
