The Health Workforce Stakeholder Group (HWSG) hosted by Health Workforce Queensland (HWQ) met on Thursday 14 September 2023.
The HWSG members meet annually for rich and insightful discussions around key issues impacting the remote and rural health workforce and its communities. Survey findings around the reasons why staff leave their workplaces from the 2023 Health Workforce Needs Assessment (HWNA) opened discussions around the importance of workplace culture and how remuneration may not be the most important driver.
The Group acknowledged that the current health workforce challenges were impacting many remote and rural communities and empowering communities to actively participate in designing solutions that meet their unique needs is vital. HWSG members enthusiastically engaged in breakout sessions addressing national priorities of increasing access to primary care and encouraging multidisciplinary team based care, developing some key messages for action to share with policymakers.
Thanks to RFDS Queensland for their inspiring presentation on the value of Aeromedical Nurse Practitioners within their retieval services and WQPHN’s overview of their wellbeing driven model of Healthy Outback Communities. We were also pleased to get an informative update on the upcoming rollout of the Single Employer Model in rural Queensland from the Office of Rural and Remote Health.
Once again, a hugely successful day and more insights to share shortly!
