QRMFN Family Support Program

​At Health Workforce Queensland, we understand the critical importance of supporting the families of the rural health workforce in addition to the practitioners themselves.

The QRMFN Family Support Program aims to recognise, empower and support rural health spouses, partners and families. In doing so, we also strive to support the health practitioners in rural and remote practice and training throughout Queensland.

Whether you’re new to Queensland or have been here for many years, learn more about the many ways we can support each other through the sharing of information, ideas and common experiences.

Backbone of the Bush Award is Back for 2024!

TThe Backbone of the Bush Award recognises the personal and professional achievements of the spouses, partners, parents, grandparents & adult children of rural medical practitioners. These family members are a great support for their rural doctor and this award shines a light on this, along with their personal achievements and involvement in the local rural community.

The nominator of the Backbone of the Bush Award recipient will receive a $100 Visa gift card!

How do I nominate?

To nominate someone special for the Backbone of the Bush Award you will be asked to provide basic contact information for the nominated person and a brief description of how that person has:

  • Contributed to the local community

  • Achieved on a personal and/or professional level

  • Supported their doctor family member

You can nominate a rural medical spouse, partner, parent, grandparent or adult child through completing the application form via the link below, once applications open.

Nominations Open: 9am (AEST) Wednesday, 31 January 2024
Nominations Close: 5pm (AEST) Tuesday, 2 April 2024

The Backbone of the Bush Award will be presented at the 2024 Rural Doctors Association of Queensland Conference in Brisbane on Saturday, 22 June 2024, at the David Horn Memorial Dinner.

QRMFN Family and Spouse Program at the RDAQ Conference

The QRMFN Family Support Program hold an family and spouse program in conjunction with the annual Rural Doctors Association of Queensland Conference. The program comprises of activities for spouses and families to enable networking, mingling and the ability to create new friends across Queensland.

The program is yet to be confirmed for RDAQ 2024, but we look forward to seeing the families and spouses in Brisbane!
