The last few months have seen some key events take place.
Sarah Venn, Executive Manager Workforce and Service Planning, presented at the 15th National Allied Health Conference, held in Perth 7–9 August, on rural allied health practitioner perceptions of primary care gaps in Queensland. Sarah highlighted that a multi-disciplinary approach to workforce and service planning may prove beneficial as perceptions of primary care gaps do differ across professions.
We held our annual Health Workforce Stakeholder Group (HWSG) Meeting on 14 September. The group, whose membership is comprised of multiple organisations representing a range of health professions, met to discuss the current and emerging workforce issues in Queensland. Member presentations were provided by Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Queensland, Western Queensland PHN and the Office of Rural and Remote Health. HWSG members provided advice and insights relating to challenges and solutions to increasing primary care access and multi-disciplinary team-based care in remote and rural Queensland. We had robust conversations and received valuable input into the workforce issues in Queensland. You can read more about the meeting below.
The new cohort for GROW Rural South West Queensland has been selected and an impressive agenda is coming together for the group's first event next month. We are excited that this program is supported by funding from Western Queensland PHN through the Australian Government's PHN Program, which will ensure the health students receive invaluable experiences, connections and skills from the program. See the recent media release for more information.
