It has been a productive few months with a number of strategic meetings taking place. On 26 February the RWAN CEOs met face-to-face in Canberra and discussed the preparation for the agency’s health workforce contract for four years from 1 July 2025. We also participated in a workshop with the HeaDS UPP team which covered health workforce data relating to our Health Workforce Needs Assessment (HWNA) processes.

Back in Brisbane the Health Workforce Queensland (HWQ) Board met on 28 February to go through initial budget planning for the 2025-2026 year and the extension of programs to 2028-2029.

HWQ actively participated in a number of meetings for the Tropical Australian Academic Health Centre Health Workforce Solutions Project which was recently published and highlighted the importance of the functions of the Health Workforce Connector role. You can read more about the Health Workforce Connector roles in the articles linked below.

We also attended the two first Advisory Group meetings for the Future-Proofing Aged Care: Workforce Planning for Far North Queensland Project which Ageing Australia is conducting to improve the workforce supply for the sector, by identifying the workforce challenges facing the sector in Far North Queensland and developing a plan to address these. This workforce plan will focus on key occupations required to deliver residential aged care services as well as in home care services for the ageing local population in the Cairns SA4 region.

We had the opportunity to meet with colleagues and friends and enjoy the GP Workforce Working Group Dinner in Toowoomba on 10 February 2025 which was hosted by Darling Downs West Moreton PHN. There was a productive discussion on the progress achieved on the GP Regional Workforce Collective Impact Plan in the DDWMPHN which provides a comprehensive roadmap for addressing the identified GP workforce needs in the region.

We are pleased to announce that we will be launching our Reconciliation Action Plan in May and will provide more details on this closer to the time.

Among other things, the team are busily preparing for the upcoming RDAQ2025 Conference, which is being held on the Gold Coast this year from 26-28 June. We are looking forward to this legendary conference again this year.
