FIFO Position in Tieri for a General Practitioner
Tieri is a very small, friendly mining town located three hours west of both Mackay and Rockhampton and one hour drive from Emerald. The practice services and a local community of around 1500 people and Oaky Creek Coal Mine, plus other surrounding mines and associated services.
The town has many facilities available including an olympic size swimming pool, large recreation centre that contains a modern gym, squash and cricket courts, skate park and bmx track, cafe, Foodworks, post office and pharmacy. They are also lucky enough to have an excellent local golf course. There is a primary school in Tieri and the nearest high school is located in Capella 30 minutes bus or car ride.
This is a contracted position with working hours from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am – 1.00pm on Saturdays. The roster is two weeks on and two weeks off. Flights to and from Emerald are provided, along with a vehicle for the duration of the roster.
General Practice experience is essential, experience in Occupational Health is preferred and emergency response experience will be looked upon favourably. There is a very generous salary package $9500 per week and a $5000 bonus after twelve months service. The doctor will be required to enrol and complete the EMO training program. Enrolment costs are covered by the employer. Accommodation is provided in the form of a furnished house.
The medical practice is a solo GP practice and has been operating for over 13 years. 70% of the workload is general practice and it is normal for the doctor to see approximately 20 patients per day.
They also have a fulltime physiotherapist who works within the practice and a full time Registered Nurse. Referral to specialists is available. Supervision by experienced doctors where required is always available.
Within the practice they have a wide variety of equipment at their disposal. This includes pathology collection facilities, sterilisation equipment, a slit lamp, stress test machine, audiology and spirometry equipment. Most of which are necessary in order to service the major clientele, mine workers, in completing a wide variety of medicals and ensuring they receive the best possible care when they have work related injuries. Mine workers and their families are the most common visitors however they do service a lot of the surrounding farming properties as well.
